The moon does not have an ozone layer due to various factors. Firstly because there is no oxygen present there which could be converted into ozone. Since the oxygen molecules are the basic ones which are responsible for the formation of ozone thus there is no ozone on the moon.

No Moon does not have an ozone layer.

It is because the moon does not have an atmosphere. Moreover for the formation of ozone oxygen is required which is not present there. The ozone formation is at high altitudes also.

No the moon is about 250k miles away I think and I am not sure how big the ozone layer is but it's certainly not that, it's like 20 or something.

Close. The distance from the Earth to the Moon is roughly 240,000 miles (238,857 miles to be precise), well outside the range of Earth's atmosphere, which is only 372 miles in thickness. The ozone layer is located in the stratosphere (roughly 12-31 miles from Earth's surface), which is the next layer after the troposphere (starts at Earth's surface and extends to 12 miles above Earth's surface). We live in the troposphere and after the stratosphere there are three other layers of atmosphere before you reach the complete vacuum of space. The entire atmosphere stretches to 6,214 miles.

No. The Ozone layer is a product of the atmospheric chemistry of Earth. It forms when high-energy photons interact with atmospheric oxygen in the reaction 3O2->2O3. Since the moon has no atmospheric oxygen (and in fact has no atmosphere), there is no ozone layer there.

No, there is no ozone on the moon. There is no atmosphere on the moon. Therefore there is no ozone on the moon.

No, there is no Ozone layer on the moon because there no atmosphere on the moon.

Does the earths ozone layer include the moon too?

The earth's ozone layer does not include the moon. The moon is far beyond.

Why is earth warmer on the surface then it is 30000 feet up or in space does it have anything to do with the ozone layer kicking the heat back down?

The atmosphere is different temperatures at different altitudes. The exosphere is basically the temperaure of the surface of the Sun, and the stratosphere is about the same temperature as the surface of the Earth. Ozone (and the ozone layer) is formed where the atmosphere absorbs enough energetic sunlight to get hotter. The greenhouse gases in the atmosphere serve to keep our average temperature a bit warmer than, say, the Moon. Ozone in the ozone layer is a player in doing this, since ozone is a greenhouse gas. But ozone is a very small player. Water vapor is a HUGE factor in "kicking the heat back down".

Why don't other planets have an ozone layer like earth?

# Mercury: Not enough atmosphere. So hot that most of the gas can escape. # Venus: Has some ozone in its atmosphere, but not much. Almost no free oxygen. Most ozone found high above the sulfuric acid clouds. Ozone requires replenishment by UV-C, and Venus' atmosphere is so thick, UV-C does not make it far. # Earth: Ozone layer. Moon: No detectable ozone (and not much oxygen). # Mars: Some ozone, almost no free oxygen (so ozone must be formed from "shattered" CO2). # Jupiter's moon Ganymede has some ozone, made almost entirely by charged particle bombardment due to Jupiter's magnetic field. No other planets seem to have any appreciable ozone in their atmospheres. We are not able to image exoplanets well enough to know if there is significant ozone on planets orbitting distant stars. Yet. So it looks like the biggest players as to whether there is an ozone layer, are: # Plenty of free oxygen molecules (meaning moderate temperatures too), and # Enough UV-C from the Sun to break apart oxygen molecules, so that some ozone can form. Oxygen is extremely reactive. Any oxygen present quickly reacts to form other compounds. However, Earth's plants continually free up oxygen in their process of respiration (using sunlight to break up carbon dioxide, keeping the carbon and freeing the oxygen), thus keeping Earth's atmosphere heavily laden (21%) with oxygen. If the plants died, the oxygen would be quickly reabsorbed into compounds and our atmosphere would become unbreathable to humans and animals, resembling Venus in temperature (+400 Celsius).

What name is given to a layer of gases that covers a planet star or moon?

The layer of gases that covers a planet, star or moon is called the atmosphere.

Is there a protective layer around the moon?

No- no atmosphere.

Related questions

Is the moon in the earth's ozone layer?

No. The Moon is "in" the exosphere, and the levels of ozone there are non-detect. The ozone layer is primarily in the stratosphere.

Was there an ozone layer on the moon?

No there is not. It has no atmosphere.

What is the ozone layer on the moon?

There isn't one, the moon doesnt have enough of an atmosphere to have an ozone layer. Ozone, also known as O3 is rare and is produced high in altitude due to certen atmospheric conditions.

Reason for why there is no life on the moon?

No atmosphere, therefore no oxygen, therefore no protective ozone layer for life to survive.

What planet has an atmosphere that includes a layer of ozone?

So far: Venus, Earth, Mars, and Jupiter's moon Ganymede.

Why doesn't the moon have enough oxygen?

the reason the moon has not got enough oxygen is because the moon has no ozone layer so it has the same amount of air as the earth but it just escapes into the galaxy

What is the Moon's climate?

The moon has no atmosphere and therefore no weather, so it does not have a climate.Technically yes but only thing is that it doesn't have ozone layer and Sun bumps into it and that's why moon's weather depends on which side is Sun and on which side is tent.Very hot on the sunny side, very cold on the dark side.

In what layer is the moon in?

the thermosphere

Is the inside of the moon as hot as the inside of the earth?

No, the inside of the moon is solid and cold.
