Both the platypus and the echidna are egg-laying mammals. They belong to the group known as monotremes and, like all mammals, they feed their young on mothers' milk.

Monotremes. There are three different types of monotremes. Platypus, short nosed echidna, and long nosed echidna.

The only surviving ones are the Platypus and the Echidna, only found in Australia.

No animal lays eggs as well as milk. However, both the platypus and the echidna lay eggs to reproduce, but feed their young on mothers' milk. They do not "lay" the milk.

Both the platypus and the echidna fit this category. They are what is known as monotremes, or egg -laying mammals. Because they are mammals, they still feed their young on mothers' milk.
