The answer, quite simply put, is yes. From my experience it depends on the frequency of the user. I personally used about 4-6 grams a day over a span of about 2 years. In the last 6 months of my addiction I would wake up every morning in withdrawal (a puddle of sweat, shiverring, and dry heaving). When I gave it up, I went through a week of extreme detox that was not only physical, but mental and emotional where I would have constant cravings and would cry for no reason. 5 1/2 months later I couldn't be happier, and with the help of an anonamus program, I never have to look back :)
