Is this website bad or what?

WikiAnswers doesn't suck. It is maintained by perhaps millions of volunteer contributors just like you. Since this is a wiki, anyone who visits is free to ask questions, answer them, and edit almost any materials contributed by others. It is possible that some people come with unreasonable expectations. It is always good to seek information from several different sources, depending on your need to verify and substantiate information and its sources.

Some might think that WikiAnswers is really a kind of search engine, and accurate, complete answers should appear moments after a question is submitted. That is not the case. YOU, in fact, are as much a part of the WikiAnswers community as anyone else who comes here. Volunteers offer knowledge as they can, and some will research answers in order to give more and better detail.

One way that WikiAnswers can be useful is to think of it as a place to practice critical thinking, and not only a place to get some useful information. You can have exchanges with people who think very differently from you on just about any topics imaginable. You can see what it is like to come up against people whose convictions, struggles and life-styles are completely different from your own. You can also learn to see what kinds of material should be backed up with hard evidence, and even where you might go to start finding the evidence. Learn to think clearly, and you will have a different opinion of this site and sites like it.

Consider this, too. This particular question was first asked 11 Nov 2008, and it is still here. Any number of people have seen it, and anyone from WikiAnswers could have gotten rid of it. WikiAnswers has enough integrity to leave it, knowing that the quality of the site will come through in the long run.

Your perception of this site being terrible is due to you not bothering to learn to use it properly and hence being frustrated and seeing it as "terrible".

This website is internationally popular and is used in many educational institutions.

Unlike the main competitor, Yahoo, this website also offers almost immediate support to users and enforce a zero tolerance approach to online bullies.

People who register an actual account will have more benefits than those who do not.

It isn't bad.

The site is very informative and very well run by a team of over 1,000 Supervisors (admins) all over the world.

Poor quality answers are caused by immature individuals. However the Supervisors are tasked with cleaning up the mess left by these immature vandals.

However, with over 7million visitors a day, it can be very demanding even for a team of 1,000 Supervisors.

If you see a poor answer, report it.

You could even join the site and get involved in one of our programs (Special Project Assistants for example) to voluntarily improve the quality of the website.
