hi there a hand whisk is used by powering a whisk by body power no electrics , you hold the whisk and rotate your hand build up some speed and then your whisking or beating you mixture . this is the oldest fashioned whisking style.

No. A hand mixer is an electric appliance, basically a much smaller version of a stand mixer (like a Kitchenaid mixer with the large bowl and interchangeable mixer attachments). It has two beaters that plug into the body. You turn it on with the beaters inside what you're mixing, and voila--- your mix comes together faster and more efficiently than you could ever do by hand (unless you're whipping egg whites, but that's another story . . . ). There should be a variety of speed controls too. In the old days, hand mixers were entirely mechanical, but basically the same construction: two beaters powered by a hand crank.
