Water (H2O) is an inorganic compound.

An organic compound has to contain carbon atoms (but this is not a general rule - many inorganic compounds contain carbon).
Organic compounds, by definition, must contain carbon atoms. Water is an inorganic compound because it is composed solely of hydrogen and oxygen (its chemical formula is H2O).
