mainly, 64 bit allows it to address (recognise/use) more than the 4 GB barrier (2^32 bytes) that is encountered in 32 bit versions of windows. This 4 GB barrier includes the system's RAM, video RAM (on your video/graphics card), and etc.. (e.g. the cache (specialised memory), on your CPU, hard-drive, etcc..) For example, if you have 4 gigabytes of RAM installed with 32 bit windows, you wouldn't be able to use all of it (some is allocated to stuff like video RAM)

Installing 16 bit software on 32 bit OS?

No special requirements are needed to install 16-bit software on 32-bit Windows. Most programs that follow the 16-bit Windows API properly should run fine.

How do you change Windows XP 64 bit to Windows XP 32 bit?

If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to another 64-bit version of Windows Vista. If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you'll need to back up your files and then perform a custom installation of the 64-bit version of Windows 8. What mode is key to backward compatibility of Windows 32 bit environment?

The key mode for backward compatibility in a Windows 32-bit environment is the Windows on Windows 64 (WoW64) subsystem. WoW64 allows 32-bit applications to run seamlessly on 64-bit versions of Windows by providing a compatibility layer that translates 32-bit calls to 64-bit operations. This ensures that legacy 32-bit applications can function without modification on modern 64-bit Windows systems.

Will 32-bit printer drivers work in a 64-bit installation of Windows?

No, 32-bit printer drivers will not work in a 64-bit installation of Windows. The operating system requires drivers that match its architecture; therefore, a 64-bit version of the printer driver must be installed for proper functionality. If only a 32-bit driver is available, users may need to find a 64-bit alternative or use a 32-bit version of Windows.

Is my windows is 64 bit or 32 bit?

The answer that used to be here was essentially right at one time, but no longer is. The simplest way to tell is to right-click your "My Computer" icon (depending on your version of Windows and your settings, this could be in your start menu, on the desktop, or in whatever insane place Windows 8 puts things; it might also just be "Computer" in the Start menu) and select "Properties." Next look at the window that comes up. If it says "64-bit" somewhere, you're running a 64-bit version of Windows. If it says "32-bit", you're running a 32-bit version. If it doesn't say either of those things, it's almost certainly 32 (up to 2014, all 64-bit versions of Windows say they're 64-bit; 32-bit versions might or might not say they're 32-bit, depending on how old they are).

Steps needed to upgrade Windows to support 64-bit processing?

To use 64-bit specific applications, you must purchase both a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit version of Windows. 64-bit applications will not run on 32-bit versions of Windows, even if a 64-bit capable processor is installed. You also cannot install a 64-bit version of Windows on a 32-bit only processor.
