It is never a good idea to mix psychoactive drugs, especially when the purpose of one of the drugs is to correct a problem. If you alter the brain's function with alcohol, it will be difficult to tell how the Wellbutrin is working, and it might not work in the best possible way. Drinking also makes it difficult to adjust dosages of other drugs.

From a practical point of view, alcohol can increase the chances of a seizure while taking Wellbutrin, and it has been reported to worsen depression and increase the likelihood of blackouts when the two are combined.

If quitting drinking seems like a big deal, that is another issue to look at. Should that be the case, you can contact your local mental health association for advice, or catch a few AA meetings. Some of the meetings are open to the general public, and you don't have to be an alcoholic to attend those.

I am currently taking 300mg of Wellbutrin and I can tell you from experience that your alcohol tolerance will be significantly lower. Be careful and don't over do it!
