People worship on Sundays because (1) some people don't know about the Sabbath because they just listen to their pastors and don't read The Bible for themselves and (2) some people just go with what they're used to and just do what their family do because of the tradition. But yes Saturday is the Sabbath and yes I'm a Seventh-Day Adventist! :)

Answer

Why do some Christians celebrate on Saturday as well as Sunday? Why not the same day?

To understand the answer to this Question terms must first be explained.

Some Christians celebrate Sunday as the "Sunday Sabbath" or "Christian Sabbath", but this can be wrong.

The "Sabbath" is actually the weekly Jewish day of rest celebrated on the 7th and last day of the week as commanded by God after He created everything else on the first 6 days of the week.

Exodus 20

11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.

In contrast to the Jewish Sabbath on the 7th day of the week, or Saturday, Christ was not resurrected until the first day of the week, or Sunday:- ,,

Mark 16

9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Traditionally it has always been taught that Christ must have died on a Friday because He was buried on "the Sabbath" and there was only one Sabbath and therefore that day was Friday. However, the the post-First Century Church soon became very anti-semitic, and so had no idea of Jewish Holy Days, High Days, Preparation Days, and holidays. They didn't know Christ was prophesied to be dead and buried , not for a day-and-a-bit between late Friday evening and early Sunday morning, but for for 3 whole 24-hr days - 72 hours in total:-

Jonah 1

17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Matthew 12

38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

This meant that non-jews [that is, Gentiles] they didn't know that

  • there were periodically more that one Sabbath a week,
  • that Christ was literally sacrificed as our Passover Lamb on the Day of Preparation
  • that occurred the day before Passover,
  • that Passovers were celebrated as special Sabbaths or Annual Sabbaths or High Days and they were not necessarily the same,
  • that He was crucified on the Wednesday
  • which was the Preparation Day for the First Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the next day {Thursday)
  • that Thursday was celebrated as a High Sabbath
  • and Thursday was also a Passover, and
  • that the next day (Friday) was an ordinary day,
However, they did know that the next day was the weekly Saturday Sabbath , and that Christ was resurrected on Sunday the following day.

Both Sabbath days and Sundays are different but both are interlinked.

In short, the Sabbath is on the 7th day of the week and looks back as a memorialto Creation, while Sunday is on the 1st day of the week and looks both back and forwards.

Looking Backwards Sunday is a memorial both of God for the Creation of the original Heaven and the Earth and also of Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead because they were both on the 1st Day of the Week, but looking forwards it is a weekly reminder each Sunday of every Christian's rebirth and Christ's promised future Return and Re -Creation of the original Heaven and the Earth . This also means that it is most likely that Christ will also return on a Sunday!

What happend on Easter?

Easter Saturday is the Saturday after Easter Sunday. It is not, as many people think, the Saturday before Easter Sunday. That is Holy Saturday. It may be Holy Saturday that you are asking about though. Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath, so no work could be done. So very little and nothing of significance happened on Holy Saturday. As it was a day of rest, that's why there was such a rush to get the body of Jesus entombed before sunset on Friday and why Jesus lay in the tomb on Holy Saturday, waiting until Sunday to rise and why the ladies didn't go to prepare the body of Jesus until the first day of the week, which is Sunday. They found he had risen and much later Christians adopted Sunday as their Sabbath in honour of the Resurrection.

What was the day Christ used to worship on?

Jesus was a Jew and he worshiped on the Jewish Sabbath, the Saturday. As far as we know, the Jewish Christians observed the Sabbath and the Christian Sunday. But this union was entirely broken by the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. In the Gentile-Christian congregations founded by Paul, the worship took from the beginning a more independent form and the Sunday was the Christian day of worship.
