The strength of the forces depends on the product of the masses of the objects,

and on the distance between them.. therefore the forces between objects increase

as the masses of the objects increase, and decrease as the distance between them

increases.

Newton said that the gravitational force is directly proportional to the product of the two masses m1 and m2 and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centres.

Mathematically it can be written as

F= Gm1m2/r2

where F is gravitational force , G is gravitational constant (remember gravitational constant is always represented by capital G)

and m1 and m2 are masses , r is the distance between their centres.
