The Son of God (Jesus the Christ) was sent to earth to reconcile man (human beings) to God. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice to satisfy God and so He went to the cross to die for us. He took our place so that we could have everlasting life with our creator. This was His mission.
Jesus said this of His mission "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." - Matthew 15:24
Jesus was sent by his Father only to the Jews; he was the "minister of the circumcision",
Rom 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
that is, a minister to the circumcised Jews; he was sent only to preach to them, and work miracles among them, in proof of his Messiahship. But Israel rejected Jesus as the Messiah and Jesus went on to the cross where He died as a sacrifice for sin.
Jesus knew that He would be rejected and at times He intimated the bigger plan to His followers;
John 12:47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
In John 10:10, Our Blessed Lord says: "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." He came to save us all from our sins: He enabled us to get to heaven, and He shows us, through His Church how we are to do that.

Mission according to Jesus
jesus send me on a mission
To do His father's will. That will was to reconcile sinful man back to God, and that was to die as a sacrifice on the cross of Calvary and be resurrected the third day. This is the mission the God Head had decided on in eternity past (Matthew 18:11). Jesus completed this mission and proclaimed on the cross, "It is finished" (John 19:30).
jesus christ
Jesus' mission was complete at Golgotha where he was eventually executed.
Jesus knew his fathers mission right from the start.
His coming was first proclaimed by John the Baptist. Christ himself proved this by his resurrection. The Disciples of Christ proclaimed what had happened.
