Order
The next level in the biological classification hierarchy after class is order.
The next taxnomic subdivision directly spouting from phylum is class. The total ranks go in this order: Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.
Phylum
Bacilli refers to any rod shaped bacteria. It is stage of taxonomy is called the class, which comes after the Super Kingdom: Bacteria and is also a division of the next stage the Phylum: Firmicutes.Bacilli is a biology term for rod-shaped bacteria.
The order of classification is: Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species The next smallest classification group after order is family.
Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species. I remember it by the phase, "King Philip came over from Germany stoned" the first letter of each word tips off what the next order in the classification sequence is.
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata sub phylum vertbrata Class: Mammalia Order: Primates sub order hoplorrhin Family: Hominidae Genus: Pan species Pan troglodytes
The next-higher level is the domain. The next-lower level is the phylum; for plants, this is traditionally called division.
Classification Goes in order: Kingdom then Phylum, etc. so lets say the organism is a monkey it would belong in the animal kingdom, Now that Kingdom is established next comes Phylum. As it is an animal with a spine the Phylum would be Chordate (vertebrate). The phylum is a descriptor used to help classify things. Now if it was a type of sea sponge it would still be in the animal Kingdom, but the Phylum would be different a sponge is in the phylum Porifera. It is almost like playing 20 questions. Each step in the classification process narrows down the choices of what the organism can be. Phylum is the second step to getting to what an organism is.Classification is not that bad if you remember this little ditty: Kangaroos Play Cellos, Orangutans Fiddle, Gorillas Sing.Kangaroos = Kingdom, Play = Phylum, Cello = Class, Orangutans = Order, Fiddle = Family,Gorillas = Genus, Sing = Species
In biology, a phylum (plural: phyla)[note 1] is a taxonomic rank below Kingdom and above Class. "Phylum" is equivalent to the botanical term division.[1]Although "phylum" is often used as if it were a clearly defined term, no satisfactory definition of it exists. In fact, "phylum" may be a misnomer indicative of ignorance.[2] Consequently the number of phyla varies from one author to the next. The relationships among phyla are becoming increasingly well known, and larger clades can be found to contain many of the phyla.
In biology, a phylum is a taxonomic rank that is used to classify organisms with similar body plans. Organisms within the same phylum share certain characteristics and evolutionary history. It is a major category in the classification of living organisms.
