The particle theory of Matter it states that:

1. All matter is made up of all tiny particles called atoms

2. Particles have empty spaces left between them

3. Even though we can not see them, particles keep on moving all the time.

4. Particles move faster, and are more separated when they are heated.

5. Particles attract each other (negative, and positive) so they tend to stay together rather then to spread apart.

the particle model of matter states:

1. All matter is made up of very small particles. The particles are much too small to observe with the naked eye or with a light microscope.

2. There are spaces between the particles. The amount of space between the particles is different for different states of matter. For example, gases have much more space between particles than solids do.

3. The particles are attracted to each other. The strength of the attraction depends on the type of material.

4. the motion of the particles increases or decreases when the temperature increases or decreases.

Solid: Particles are packed together tightly. This means that a solid will hold a definite shape. They particles are constantly vibrating in place.

Liquid: Particles are in contract with each other, but can slip and slide past one anther. This means that a liquid takes shape of the container.

Gas:Particles have large spacing. Can move freely in all directions. Takes the shape of the container.

1. Matter is made up of particles; 2. The particles are infinitely small to the point of having negligible volume;

3. These particles are in constant motion due to the energy of the surroundings - vibrational, rotational, and transitional motion;

4. An increase in temperature increases the motion/energy of the particles;

5. Gas particles have no inter-particular attractive or repulsive forces and all collisions are elastic.

Order of the above is not important. There is of course a problem with number 5 as we know that solids and liquids exist. Ideal gases have no inter-particular forces. A gas acts like an ideal gas when it is well above its boiling point and the pressure is relatively low. For example steam/gaseous water acts as an ideal gas at 1 ATM and 120 oC but not if the pressure increases to force the particles together or the temperature drops towards 100 oC.
