There are many, many promises in The Bible; too many for me to place them all here on this page. However, I will include and explain several of the promises found in the Bible on this page, and then include the references for several more promises. There are two different kinds of promises, and I will include examples for both. The first kind of promise is the unconditional promise. That means that the person who is promising to do something, will do it no matter what the receiving party does. An example from everyday life would be the person who says to his/her spouse "I will always love you, no matter what you do." or the vows made at a wedding "for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health..." God has made numerous unconditional promises in the Bible; and because He is God, He cannot break them like people can. An example of an unconditional promise in the Bible can be found in Matthew 5:18: * Matthew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."Have you ever heard people make the comment about "dotting our i's and crossing our t's"? In this verse, God is promising that no matter what happens, not one dot of an i nor a cross on a t will pass from His Word, till the end of the world comes. No matter how many people will say that we cannot trust the Bible because it has been corrupted over time, God has promised that He will not let that happen, that He will preserve His Word. (Here I must make a disclaimer: I am not saying that every Bible version out there is the inspired, uncorrupted Word of God. There only needs to be one that is uncorrupted for God to keep His promise.) The second kind of promise is the conditional one. Another example from everyday life would be the person who says "As long as you stay faithful to me in our marriage, I will always support you and take care of you." Certain kinds of prenuptial agreements could also serve as examples of conditional promises. God has made some promises in the Bible that are conditional as well. Notice the "if" in the following verse: * 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."This promise states that if a nation who has turned from God to wickedness needs help, God will heal their land; but only if they turn to God in humility, prayer and repentance. Here is another example of a promise in the Bible concerning eternal life: * 1 John 2:25 "And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life." * John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." * 1 John 5:11-13 "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." God has promised that you can have eternal life, and know it for sure - "ye may know that ye have eternal life...". No one has to guess about whether or not they will go to heaven when they die. You can know for sure where you will spend eternity. This promise of eternal life is conditional; but not by what you do or don't do (going to church, giving money to the church, committing certain kinds of sins, etc.). This promise is conditional upon only one thing: what you do with the knowledge of Jesus Christ, God's Son. The verse says "He that hath the Son hath life..." meaning that if you believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son, that He died on the cross to pay for your sins, and repent of your sins and ask Him to forgive you and be your Savior, then you "have" the Son as your Savior, and therefore you HAVE eternal life. However, the Bible also says "he that hath not the Son of God hath not life...". So just like you can know if you are going to heaven, you can know if you are going to hell. If you have rejected or put off receiving Christ as your Savior, and you don't "have" the Son, then you don't have eternal life. * Read also Acts 2:38-39 These are promises concerning the return of Jesus Christ and the end of this world as we know it today (His return and the destruction of the world are unconditional promises. Whether or not Christ will receive you unto Himself, or prepare a place for you, are conditional promises): * John 14:2-3 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." * Read all of 2 Peter 3:3-13. I will include verse 13: "Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." * In each of the following verses, Jesus promises that He will come again: Revelation 2:5, 2:16, 3:11, 22:7, 22:12, 22:20 Another conditional promise for those who honor their parents: * Exodus 20:12 "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee." * Deuteronomy 5:16 "Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee." * Ephesians 6:2 "Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)" Here is an example of a promise in the Bible that has already been fulfilled. It concerns Abraham and his son Isaac: * Read Genesis 15:4-6, 17:3-8, 17:15-19. I will include Genesis 17:19 "And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him." * Read Genesis 18:9-15. I will include verse 14: "Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son." * Genesis 21:1-3 "And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac." * Read Romans 4:17-22. I will include verses 19-21: "And (Abraham) being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform." * Read Psalm 105:42, Romans 9:9, Galatians 4:28, Hebrews 6:13-14 God's promise that He will never again kill everyone on the earth with a worldwide flood (This promise has a sign with it; the sign of this promise is the rainbow): * Genesis 9:8-17. I will include verses 11-13: "And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth." Concerning the promise of the Holy Spirit to those who believe and receive the salvation offered through Jesus Christ: * John 14:16-17, John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:7-15, Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4, Acts 2:33, Ephesians 1:13

To name a few, he promises us hope, to prosper us, he promises us to always be with us even in our darkest times. But the only way his promises can be fulfilled is if you are following his ways and believe. You can't live the way you want to live and expect God to prosper you. He does things at his time not our own.

It is an exhaustive listing and far too many to list here (perhaps thousands). Suffice it to say, God promised to send mankind a Savior to pay for our sins and insure our opportunity for Salvation. Promises include blessings for those who follow His Law and cursings for those who do not. Nearly every book in Scripture has promises in it.
