The mass of myoglobin is roughly 17,000 daltons. There is some variation between species as there are some regions of the globin that are highly conserved (such as in the heme binding pocket of the protein) and some regions that are more variable. Mammalian myoglobin is typically considered to be composed of 153 amino acids.
