Meandering and braided are terms commonly used to describe types of rivers or streams.
certian types of rivers
A river
The sediment load is large and the river gets confused and breaks up into smaller channels with a branching, but braided look.
One method is to plant deep rooted plants or to entrench mats of braided straw along riverbanks so the soil does not wash away. The idea is to bind the soil together so it does not erode by wind, water, or other weather.
Meander formation Water flows faster on the outer curve of the bend of a river and slower on the inner curve so the outer bank gets eroded, but silt is deposited at the inner bank. Over time as the outer bank wears and the inner one grows, a meander forms. As the process continues, the meander becomes more loopy. If you doing this for work/school I suggest you use diagrams/pictures to show each stage.
Glacial ice erosion will form: * Corries (cirques) * Aretes * Pyramidal Peaks * U-shaped troughs * Hanging Valleys * Truncated Spurs * Rouche Moutonees * Striations * Rock Steps Sediment deposition (resulting from glacial processes) will form: * Ice-transported boulders * Erratics * Lateral moraines * Medial moraines * Terminal moraines * Recessional moraines * Push moraines * Varves * Eskers * Delta kames * Kame terraces * Braided streams * Flat bottoms to U-shaped valleys
when the river is carrying vast amounts of erdoded material as bedload. as water levels fall and the energy decreases the river drops its coursest material. the rapid deposition of its coursest material begins to block the main channel causing the river to divide into smaller channels that seek to find the way through the obsructing channel
The physical feature that is commonly described as meandering or braided are streams or rivers. Braided streams are fast moving waters in multiple shallow channels. Meandering streams are single streams on gently sloped or flat areas.
The Mississippi is a meandering river. Braided rivers are relatively shallow and slow moving except in times of flood. Unlike the Mississippi, they seldom are navigable by large boats.
The braided markings on alluvial fans are from erosion caused by braided streams. It is created by the meandering, combining, and separating of the waters as they flow over and around different landforms.
braided streams
One circumstance in which braided streams form is at the end of a glacier where there is a large seasonal variation in dicharge.
