Some are obvious, such as the green turn arrows, the blue high beam, the red oil can (low pressure), the amber trunk lid, the amber low fuel gas pump, and the red thermometer in water (high water temperature). Some are less obvious, such as the same red thermometer except with a blue light, which means the engine is cold. Also there might be a pair of arrows with a "1" between them, which lights with the turn signals if your car has a towing package and is connected to a trailer. There also may be an amber headlight-like symbol for the rear fog light (if you have a rear fog light, please learn how and when to use it!). Some US models have two brake lights. One says the word "BRAKE" or shows a red circle with parenthesis around it, and the other has an exclamation point inside the circular symbol and may be amber, indicating a partial brake system failure. Finally, you may have a green light which looks like two small headlight symbols facing away from each other. This is a parking light indicator which comes on whenever the headlight switch is turned to either position.

In a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, the fuse for the dashboard lights is located in the fuse box under the dashboard on the driver's side. Specifically, you'll want to check the fuse labeled "IP" (instrument panel) or "Dome" in the fuse box. If the dashboard lights are not working, it's a good idea to inspect this fuse for any signs of damage or blown connections.
