How can you deal with sewage without dumping it in water?

Sewage should be treated carefully by qualified and accountable authorities. There are a lot of risks where sewage is not properly treated or disposed of. There are several methods employed but all start with sewage treatment and sanitation; this is where sewage is separated out, sterilised and reintroduced to water systems. This is the best way to deal with sewage safely as it poses the least risks - clean water is recirculated and the impurities are removed, but where does this go? The impurities can be used for lots of things; * Biofuel - biosolids collected from sewage can be processed to produce clean biofuels. While solar based renewable power (solar cells and wind turbines - though tidal power should also be thrown in here really, there's just no other grouping term to use!) is much more appealing from an enviromental perspective, biofuels are viable from an economic perspective as they can be integrated into current infrastructures at a lower cost - so this is a step in the right direction (ie. away from fossil fuels!) * Fertiliser -fertilisers produced from human excrement have two main issues: o They need to be carefully sterilised - disease can be spread via excrement and being human excrement there are going to be a larger volume of disease which would be a risk to humans. o Humans eat meat on the whole and as such do not produce good manure for growing plants - plant materials from herbivorous excrement and compost are much more useful for this.
