Traditional dishes include stuffed turkey, glazed pork leg, romeritos (patties of dried shrimp and potatoes in a mole sauce served with sprigs of a wild plant known as Romerito) and bacalao a la vizcaina(Basque-style codfish stew). The celebration can have fireworks and a piñata for the children. Some families keep the tradition of the doce uvas de la suerte (Spanish for twelve grapes of luck); consisting in eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight of December 31. Each grape symbolizes a month of prosperity for the following year.
