Mitosis is involved in virtually every single living organism on the planet, and is responsible for their growth and development.
In sexually reproducing organisms, such as mammals, mitosis occurs immediately after fusion of the egg and sperm, (which were produced through meiosis) and happens all the way through gestation, (in mammals) and throughout the entire life of the animal.
