If you made your deposit of 2700. with a check, sometimes banks put a hold on the check until it clears before the actual deposit is made. I suspect this is what happened in this case. Sometimes the hold can be 2-9 business days. They should have told you a hold would have been put on the check but it is probably in your banking contract anyway. The extra you end up owing is probably due to the fees for not having sufficient funds in your account when you wrote the checks. There may also be fees from the places you wrote the checks to. I have a different take on what you are asking then the above. It sound to me like the check was returned unpaid. Usually a bank will not let you take cash back on a check that they are going to place a hold on. I assume that you had a check for $2900. You did a deposit with cash back. At some later time the check was return by the bank it was drawn on for some reason(such as insufficent funds, improper endorsement, Stop Payment, or Forgery/Fraud) In this case the bank may have paid items against this deposit. So now that the check it returned you owe the bank the total amount the check was for plus any fees for the returned check or NSFs that it might have cause. Return Items can take a long time to get back to the bank depending on where the bank the check is drawn from is and what the reason for the return was. Banks typically put holds on checks for two reasons: the amount of the check is larger than your typical deposits OR the bank had reason to believe the check was not good. I would be interested to know who wrote you this check. My experience in banking tells me that when someone has a large check they deposited that wasn't good it normally has come from someone they don't know or from some sort of scam. Typical scams including: lottery scam, Nigerian scam and shoppers scam. If this check came from any of these sources it is likely it wasn't good.

When was Bounced Checks created?

How do you find out where all of your checks are that bounced?

You need to get with your bank to see if they paid your checks or not. If they sent them back to the person who deposited the checks that you made out to them they will be at that person's office or business. You will receive a charge from your bank for bouncing the check and you will also get a bill from who you wrote the check to so you can pick up the bounced check. Some businesses don't keep their bounced checks they turn them over to a collection agency and then they will contact you. Hope this helps.

Can you deduct bounced check charges?

Yes, bounced check charges can be deducted, and no, they can't. As one of the expenses of doing business, businesses can deduct bounced check charges for checks bounced by customers. But as an individual, it isn't possible to deduct charges that are assessed by businesses and banks for bounced checks. Can you include bounced checks in a bankruptcy with criminal charges pending on the checks?

You can and should include the bounced checks, but that will only take care of any civil liability. If the criminal case results in a fine or jail sentence, the bankruptcy will have no effect on that. If the criminal court orders restitution, chances are the bankruptcy will not affect that either, but some states have different rules.
