I would check your starter one thing then next make sure you are getting a good connection with the battery that can cause that to do that too also make sure the engine is getting fuel to the engine my escort ZX2 has a VCT motor and I put new injectors in it and it works alot better so These are some inexpensive things if not ask a garage to check it out
