Saturn in Roman mythology is a god who corresponds to the Greek Kronos. He was the ruler of the gods until Jupiter took his place. Saturn was the god of wealth and agriculture, and was later also considered to be the god of time. The festival Saturnalia, one of the best known Roman festivals, was in his honor.
I am more familiar with greek mythology, so I am going to answer the question using greek names for the mythological creatures.
Who He Is.
Kronos (Saturn) is the god of time. Actually, he is a titan. The titans existed before the gods. I believe there were fourteen titans, but I am not sure. There are many stories in which Kronos plays a role in, but there is one main story, that drowns out the others.
His Story
Kronos was the king of the titans, who ruled the earth. Kronos was constantly afraid of being overthrown, so when the fates prophesied that one of his children would one day overthrow him, he didn't take it well. Kronos started eating every child his wife, Rhea, gave birth to. Rhea became angry at her husband, so, after the first five children he ate, Rhea played a trick on Kronos. Rhea gave Kronos a rock to eat instead of her 6th child, Zues.
Rhea hid Zues away in a far off place, to be raised by a magical Satyr. A Satyr is a mix between a man and a goat. Like a Centaur, a more commonly known mythological creature, which is a mix between a man and a horse.Zues was trained there, and when he was ready, he challenged his father, and took the throne. And in the process, rescuing his brothers and sisters. He became the king of the gods and the sky, and started a new era.His father was cut up by his own scythe, into millions of pieces, which were scattered throughout tartars.
Thus ends the story of Kronos, Lord of Time, and Ruler of the Titans.
