Radiation energetic enough to ionize matter with which it collides is called Ionizing Radiation. The Geiger counter is a radiation detection device that makes use of ionizing radiation in its operation. This device is also used to measure the amount of radiation.

A Gieger counter (or Geiger-Müller counter) is the most common tool for detecting radiation. It works with all types of radiation, that is particulate (like alpha and beta radiation) and electromagnetic (gamma radiation. Its operation is based on the ionizing power of the radiatio, and it is a fairly simple, cheap and tough piece of gear to take into the field.

We also use other counters that are based on the same or similar principles to detect radiation. The scintillation countercan be designed to "look" more specifically for gamma radiation, or the alpha and beta particulate radiation. These units are more expensive, and they are generally better at detecting gamma rays. A link can be found below for more information.

you can detect the Neutron density using a Geiger counter.

This device will measure the intensity of non ionising radiation in Microsieverts.

0.30 Microsieverts is normal background radiation.

Nuclear radiation can be detected in several different ways. The most common ones include the usage of equipment below:

- Geiger-Muller tube - alpha (a), beta (b), gamma (g)

- Scintillation counter - a, b, g

- Photographic film - a, b, g

- Gold-leaf electroscope - a, b

- Thermoluminescent dosimeter - g

- Cloud chamber - a, b, y

- Spark counter - a, b

What are some possible test that you can do to identify the radiation emitted by the uranium salt?

There are multiple instrumentation types capable of detecting radiation. The Geiger Counter is one such device capable of detecting radiation emissions from uranium and other radioactive materials/sources.

Why are film badges unsuitable for detecting alpha particle radiation?

Alpha can not make it through the badge holder to the film. This reason makes the film badges unsuitable for detecting alpha particle radiation.

Nuclear radiation is not affected at all, but radiation by Electromagnetic Radiation is. This is a straight Physics topic, not Nuclear Energy.

Is radiation good for nuclear energy?

Radiation is a consequence of nuclear energy. In fact, without the radiation of a large neutron flux, nuclear energy would not exist.
