How do you develop a motif for dance?

Hi there, I am currently working on motifs for a solo based around the idea of 'red'. Here are some ideas. Change your focus, turn to face the back or look at a particular spot on the wall. Change where your focus is. Another is use choreographic devices such as embellishment. This means making moves bigger or more interesting, even adding in new moves. One idea is to do your motif and then repeat it on the floor or in the air, use the space differently. It all depends on what your aiming to get across to the audience. There are many choreographic devices out there, like retrograde, doing the motif then doing it backwards. Good luck!
