Blair is mad at Serena because she feels that Serena ditched her for boarding school at her time of need. They were best friends, and Serena left without a word to Blair. It especially hurt her that she only found out from Serena's mother. During Serena's absence, Blair had to deal with not only losing a best friend, but the split of her parents. She tried to contact Serena, but decided not to. Blair eventually 'got over' the loss of Serena, and reigned the social hierarchy at Constance Billiard (her school). When Serena suddenly returned to the Upper East Side, again with no word to Blair, Blair felt threatened and hurt by her former best friend.
