It indicates that there is a condition in the engine that may cause damage or an abnormality in the normal engine performance. Typically its recommended you return the vehicle to a dealer for maintenance. If you want you can take your vehicle to a autoparts store to read the "Codes" that caused the SES light to appear. They can also clear the codes to see if it will recurr again.
