Shakespeare's epitaph in part reads that a person who moved his bones would be cursed. The irony is that when his grave was opened, it was found to be empty. It isn't known if someone has moved the bones or natural factors were responsible.
We don't know Shakespeare's birthday for sure, although we know that he was christened on April 26, 1564. That means he might have been born on April 23, which would have been interesting, first because it is St. George's day, and he is the patron saint of England, and second because it is the day on which Shakespeare died.
Some people think he died on the same day he was born, April 23. But actually we only know that he was baptised on April 26, and guess that he might have been born on April 23. He could have been born on the 22nd or 24th but people chose to believe it was the 23rd because a) it is the feast day of St. George, patron saint of England and b) it would mean that he died on the same day he was born.
All of which means that it is not ironic at all. Shakespeare's birthday was chosen because it's the same day he died.
possibly just the fact, that a great poet, comedian actor, and role model had died.
i know if i had the honor of seeing one of his plays i wuda been sad as well when he passed :'(
He died on his birthday..do i have to explain the irony?
He died on the 23rd of April.
He died on his birthday.
Miguel de Cervantes died on the same date as Shakespeare, but not on the same day. They both died on April 23, 1616, but Cervantes died in Spain where they used the Gregorian calendar, and Shakespeare died in England where they used the Julian calendar. April 23 happened 10 days earlier in Spain, so Cervantes died 10 days before Shakespeare, even though they died on the same date.
April 23, 1616
