The molecules that are classified as carbohydrates are monosaccharaides, polysaccharides and disaccharides. Carbohydrates are also referred to as saccharides that are composed of the elements hydrogen, carbon and oxygen.

Molecules classified as carbohydrates are:
Glucose, mannose, Fucose, Galactose. These are Monosaccharides - they contain a single carbohydrate. They are also considered neutral sugars because they do not have a charge.

Glucuronic acid, and the Sialic acids are acidic carbohydrates. These are also monosaccharides.

N-acetyl- galactosamine, and N-acetyl-glucosamine are both monosaccharides and these are amino sugars because they contain an acetylated amine in place of a single ring hydroxyl group.

Sucrose, (aka table sugar), Fructose (fruit sugar) and lactose (milk sugar) are disaccharides (composed of 2 monosaccharides)
