There are many different measurements for species status used to list a species by different groups, and lists, but this is the general meaning of "endangered species" status listing in many groupings. Because the definition has, "soon become extinct" it could also refer to "critically endangered species" as well. This doesn't apply to all the different groups, or lists, and most have their own precise individual definitions, which they use to measure a species population. When using an endangered species report or list, it's best to read through their listing and profile information so you understand the verbiage they use and what it implies for the species. For more details, please see the sites listed below.
Those types of animals would be called "Endangered." The animals very close to extinction would be higher on the Endangered Species List.

Invasive Species :)
Endangered Species
The killer whale as a species is not an endangered species, although there are a couple of declining local populations. But the species as a whole is doing fairly well.
When the last living member of that species dies, the species become "extinct".
Extinct is already dead and Endangered is there is less of them left in the world meaning we should try to save them !!
Critically Endangered. Example: Amur leopard, around 35-50 in the wild.
Extinct (Extinction)
No - there are over 40 known species and no species are known to have become extinct.
Extinction. When a species fails to adapt, it dies out.
The other species will become extinct
Primarily most species become extinct because they are unable to adapt....that being said dozens of identified species do not become extinct every day.
Most become extinct because they can not adapt to changes in their environments. Those that can don't become extinct.
Any species will become extinct in time, including humans.
About 35 - 150 species of life become extinct everyday. Most due to deforestation (loss of rainforest).
