There are several things that can cause pain below the right rib. In most cases, this might be as a result of inflammation of the organs that are below the right rib like liver, gallbladder and kidney among others.
The ribs have many muscles attached to them called intercostal muscles and perhaps you could have pulled one of those. Or perhaps it's only gas pain. Your gallbladder is also in that area. I suggest you see your physician and see if some tests could be run if you are that uncomfortable. But think on the positive side and think something minor! I'm not a doctor so I would suggest you see yours if it gets worse.
Could be Gall Bladder stone or Liver disease.
You may have bruised a rib, or you have a little indigestion, if it continues then you must seek out a physician.
Could be kidney infection or other kidney problem, if the pain is under the bottom part of the ribs.

Pain under the ribs and in the back can be from the kidneys. This can be an indicator of kidney stones or a kidney infection.
Growing Pains perhaps depending upon your age.
Pain under the rib cage is usually a cramp from exercising. If the pain does not subside, you may need to visit a doctor.

I have that right now. Up until today I had a spasm feeling in that area that has been going on for a few months. My ultrasound was O.K . I am getting refered to a GI Dr. I am not a doctor but from the research I have done I think it is my Gallbladder. My pain had been a mild anoyance until now, but sharp pain under the right rib cage, sometimes with vomiting usually is the Gallbladder.

My husband has this extremely sharp pain on his right side on his back, just below the rib cage. He also has had kidney stones and the pain is different than the type of pain they caused. It only hurts when he makes certain movements. He has had MRI's and an x-ray, but nothing shows up. Is it a muscle strain or does anyone else who has experienced this problem know what is causing this pain?
Severe pain under the center of your rib cage can be an indicator of a couple of things. It could be heartburn, an ulcer, gall stones, or a simple stomach bug.
Most likely it is a blockage of the gallbladder or the biliary ducts.
