But as it is highly reactive, a tendency to 'float' in water may be caused by the oxidation of the metal at its exposed surface, particularly with a thin sample' with the attendant evolution of hydrogen - whose bubbles might momentarily stick to the metal surface, and make it temporarily more buoyant.
