Sometimes the house brand is the same exact thing, so you need to buy it first and make the determination.

Products such as flour, sugar, butter, salt, and other basics such as bottled water, painkillers, and many more, are identical. If the ingredients list says 'sugar' on a house brand package, and the same on a master brand at twice the price or more, then you're wasting your money if you buy the expensive brand.

What you pay for when you buy a master brand is their packaging, their costs in maintaining their trademarks, and, above all, their advertising. So, you're paying extra for someone to spend money to persuade you to pay extra!

Go figure...!

Many Master Brands do not let the exact formula or recipe be made in the house brand, so the product may look similar, work in the same way, and have very similar ingredients but be slightly different. You have to determine if those differences make one better, and then if it is better, is it worth the cost difference.

Pros: House brand is cheaper, house brand may be identical or nearly identical

Cons: House brand may be different and not as good in some way, some may be embarrassed by using a house brand
