Assistant District Attorneys

In order to be eligible for appointment as an assistant district attorney, an individual must be a member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar Association. Generally, this requires both an undergraduate degree and a law degree from an accredited or approved institution(s) and compliance with the other rules of admission.

When positions are available, interviews for attorneys are generally conducted after the first of the year and conclude by early spring. New attorneys are generally hired and are sworn in by late spring or early summer.

Applicants who are currently enrolled in law school and who will be sitting for the bar following graduation are eligible to interview for open attorney positions; however, employment is contingent upon their admission to the bar. The Morgan County District Attorney's Office often conducts on campus interviews at both the University of Alabama School of Law and the Cumberland School of Law. Students interested in scheduling an on-campus interview should check with their respective placement offices to see if we will be visiting your campus.

Part-time attorney positions are filled from time-to-time as the need arises. Generally speaking, substantial litigation experience is a requirement for these positions. Individuals interested in such employment are urged to complete an application and have it, together with a copy of their resume, placed on file at the District Attorney's Office, as these positions are often filled quickly with little or no public notice.
