Napoleon stopped the revolution by supporting in a coup to overthrow the constitutional government in 1799. From then on, he crowned himself Emperor and made France an Empire instead of the republic the revolutionists had fought and killed so hard for.
Well, betray. He took the army that was defending the Republic and turned it into an instrument of conquest which led to his becoming Emperor.
I disagree. In its final stages before Napoleon took control, the French Revolution was extremely unstable and brutal. After all former French law and government of Louis XVI was eradicated there was uncertainty of where the country was headed. Napoleon realized this and after his great successes in battle, he revolted against the state (called the Brumaire Coup) which was very, very corrupt.
When Napoleon became emperor, he settled the problem of religion with the Concordat. He built better roads and bridges throughout France. He established a national bank. He lead France through almost 5 years of complete peace. Most important of all, he laid down the Napoleonic Code which was a very good set of laws focusing on National Unity, Civil Equality, and so forth. Also, the Napoleonic Code was uniform throughout France unlike the previous laws had a lot of gray area and loopholes.
All in all, it is accurate to say that Napoleon betrayed the revolution and its ideals, but its ideals at that point were immoral and corrupt. Napoleon took France and totally rebuilt it. He made a new, better France which would not have resulted from a continuation of the revolution's ideals.
Yes, he did. Because he betrayed equality by creating the civil code that only gave rights to man and not woman. he also betray fraternity by creating his position hederitary.
Betray. He was like a modern Julius Caesar. The French Revolution shortly followed the American one. It didn't really accomplish anything, many people died and many people vied for power.

Napoleon did not betray the revolution he led them extremely well all his opponents thought he was just lucky but he surprised them and his army fought with him. Napoleon did betray the revolution in many ways for example in the declaration of the rights of man it stated that all men and born equal, so why did he still insist on being sexist why were women not allowed to go to school. Also during the revolution it said that every man should be allowed to vote. Whereas during Napoleon reign he insisted that nobody should be allowed to vote.
