This is a greatly debatable question. So let me lay down the facts for you then let you decide.
- The 3DS xl has a 90% larger screen. If you like the big screen play, then its a pro. An also, the bigger screen mean larger sweet spot.
- The xl has about 84% more battery(3.5-6.5 hrs as compared to 3-5). Great if you are going to carry it around
- The xl has the stylus to the right! You keep fumbling trying to grab the stylus from behind in the 3DS but the xl has it on the right.
- It comes with a 4 GB sd card rather than the 2 GB.
- The buttons are thicker and better.
- The Start, Select and Home buttons are better designed.
- it has much less glare, which is a large plus point.
- the xl weighs 330 gms more, and is about $30 more
So, there you go personally I would go for the 3DS xl

∙ 11y agoI would recommend the 3DS XL if you don't already have the 3DS. All in all it's a personal preference. The 3DS XL comes at $30 more than the original 3DS but has, obviously, a bigger screen. Lastly, if you get the XL, get a charger. It doesn't come with it.

∙ 11y agoyes the 3ds xl is going to be there. Nintendo has said it'll come out 8/19/12 along with New Super Mario bros 2. The colors for it in US is red and blue.
