i think its because you had enough nerve to slap them or because in the movie its usually what the good guy does to the enemy meaning that they must have meant so little to you either at the time or always!! It's sort of like one dog staring down another before the big fight. Slapping a person in the face is the signal to blast off! If you remember the French, they would slap another peer with a glove which meant it was dueling time.
