SHOULD's
  • Be well prepared and be yourself.Depending on how important this job is to you, do a bit of research about the company so you are more familiar with it's history, product and other bits of info, even some fun bits of trivia.
  • Have an extra copy of your resume and possible cover letter and references on hand, just in case.
  • Be dressed in clean clothes and appropriate for the type of company and the position you are being interviewed for.
  • Be punctual on time.
  • Extend your hand for a firm, respectful handshake.
  • Make yourself comfortable in the interview and ask all the questions you want that would pertain to you working there.
  • Remember that you are also interviewing the company to see if that is where you'd like to work.
  • Remember, this is a job interview, not a therapy session.
  • Check your body language and facial expressions for giving off the right impression and that of a confident person.
  • During the interview make eye contact and if you find it difficult to look directly at the interviewer, then look at their forehead, just slightly above the middle of their eyebrows. This gives the impression that you are making eye contact and takes some of the pressure off you.

SHOULDN'Ts
  • Bad breath and dirty teeth take the charm out of being in your presence.Don't eat yourfavouritegarlic sandwich or anything like that. And forget to brush your teeth before going to your interview.
  • Perfume is frowned upon about as much as cigarettes are these days, so do not be wearing either one of those scents on your clothes and body to that interview.
  • Overdone make up and nails gives the impression of being too high maintenance to be seen as a hard worker. It takes a lot of time to keep up the 'look'.
  • Do not GOSSIP about anything or anyone from a previous job or the one you are applying for.
  • Don't look at the photo on the interviewer's desk and comment on how lovely his wife is. It might be his mistress and that's your first strike out.

Absolutely. You may want to ask how the job opening came about. If the job opening came about due to a promotion then ask what type of work ethic and track record it takes to succeed within the company. If the opening did not come about by way of promotion then ask about the opportunities to grow within the company.

Also, if salary has not been disclosed and you're not interviewing with an HR rep beforehand, it's your right and recommended to inquire about salary.

Very important! If you're not prepared, the interviewers know it by your poor performance. Always do your "homework" and prepare for a good interview.
