During menstruation it is easier for you to develop a vaginal infection such as Bacterial Vaginosis because the vagina is naturally acidic to maintain healthy vaginal flora, but blood makes the vagina less acidic. Menstrual products make a huge difference, tampons are hailed as more hygienic than pads but are actually less hygienic as they keep flow in the vagina which changes vaginal pH and gives bacteria the perfect place to multiply while preventing vaginal cleaning, commercial pads are also problematic because they make genitals warm/moist so perfect for bacterial growth.
It may be a temporary imbalance in vaginal flora but if the bad odour continues it may be a sign you have Bacterial Vaginosis, you should see your doctor for tests and treatment.

I have had regular periods since I started depo in Oct 09.... I am due for my 4th shot in July and have been bleeding now for over a month.. I am very aniemic so am choosing to discontinue the shot.
