Snowblower will start but wont stay running?

snow blower not able to start but runs good after starting. Has sat in basement all summer. Request guidance.

Im guessing it ran fine last year & you stored it with fuel in it (really common) you should drain the tank & carb & add brand new fresh fuel, this may or may not solve the problem since does run fine once you get it going but its always good to use the freshest fuel possible when you have fuel system problems. if this snow blower was made in the last tweenty years you should have primmer button on the unit, there is a rubber line that gos from the primmer to the carb under the cover on the left side of your engine (the smaller of the two black lines) these rot, brake or, just become gummy and plug. most of the time you can clean the nipple on the carb & clip the line back as it usually just rots at the end. otherwise remove the front cover & replace the line. if nothing els dismantle & clean your carb or keep a can of starting fluid around.

More than likely there was fuel left in the equipment during the summer months. Gas does go bad and turns into a gummy substance. you'll need to have the carb cleaned or clean it your self.

When you engage the auger, the load is added to the engine. Turn the carburetor needle valve 1/8 to 1/4 turn counterclockwise to make the engine run a little richer. That should help.

Check your float in the carberator. Sounds like it may be sticking. Some times you can fix this by putting carb. cleaner in the gas.
