Salt is very safe. It will not explode and is stable. It will react with iron and cause it to rust, but at a fairly slow rate.

Digesting some salt is vital for life. Too much salt can cause health issues.

Sodium chloride is just table salt. You find it in nearly all processed foods. A diet high in salt is not good for you. It can cause high blood pressure, which can lead to all sorts of troubles: heart attacks, strokes, etc. So I guess the best answer to your question is no sodium chloride is not dangerous, when used in moderation.

Chlorine and Sodium, by themselves, are so dangerous because they are so reactive but the ionic bond between the sodium and chloride ion is very strong. This essentially means that the compound won't react violently with anything in the body or lungs as sodium or chlorine regularly would.
