newtons third law states that "every action has an equal and opposite reaction".

the reaction will be opposite to the direction of action but it is equal in magnitude of force with which action is done.

Newtons Third law: The mutual forces of action and reaction between two bodies are equal, opposite and collinear. This means that whenever a first body exerts a force on a second body, the second body exerts a reaction equal to the force. The action and reaction are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. This law is sometimes isreferred to as the action-reaction law, with the "action" called F sometimes and the "reaction" called -F. The action and the reaction are simultaneous.
