Some strengths of communism included at or near majority employment, rapid development and economic growth for the country, an equitable distribution of wealth and no class system. Disadvantages include a loss of personal freedom and ambition, simple, materialistic approaches to lifeâ??s problems, a sort of machine like mentality. In addition, the Central State Authority holds all means of production.

One of the main weaknesses of communism include dependence on the government. A strength of communism is that everything is reportedly equal - there is no upper class, middle class, and lower class.

Strengths :

Marxist theory looks at society as a whole, therefore acknowledging all the social forces involved.

It recognises the power interests of different groups.

Is good at explaining conflict and change in society.

Stresses the role of class struggle (conflict) within society between the proletariat (workers) and the bourgeoisie (owners).

Recognises that society is organised under capitalism, in that the bourgeoisie aim to maximise profit by exploiting the proletariat.

Weaknesses :

Marxist theory finds it difficult to explain the presence of certain phenomena (for example Kerry Katona has lots of money but is from a working class background).

It overlooks the idea that other factors may help to shape society.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of standard theory-linguistics?

Strengths: Standard theory in linguistics provides a systematic framework for analyzing language structures and patterns. It offers a foundation for understanding universal grammar principles that underlie all human languages. Through its rigorous approach, it allows for precise comparisons and predictions across languages. Weaknesses: Standard theory may not fully account for the diversity of linguistic phenomena found in all languages. It has been criticized for its focus on formal rules and structures, sometimes overlooking the functional aspects of language use. The theory's complexity can be challenging for beginners and may not always align with emerging research findings in the field of linguistics.

How was socialism different from Marxist?

Socialism is an economic system based on public or cooperative ownership of the means of production, worker's self-management and collective decision-making in enterprises, and production for use. Marxism is an economic and sociological theory on capitalism, economic development and social class that predicts socialism to be an outcome of economic and technological development. Many socialists agreed with Marxist or quasi-Marxist analysis and theories, but not all socialists agree with or are Marxist. In short, Marxism is a theory; Socialism is a system.

How far is marxist theory of social development relevant?

Marxist theory of social development is not relevant now. Human beings will never abandon their right to private possession of things, whether they be cultivative land, their husbands and wives, or children. Community possession of products or resources have been experimented with in several ages and they have always failed as is evidenced by the overpowering urge for private possession. Or, the emotional nature of human mind has to go which never will. Marxist theory of social development is derived from three sources, three roots, which are English Economics, French Socialism and German Philosophy. Unless these three characters of Marxism wither away, the emotional nature of human mind will make Marxist development of society irrelevant.
