The Book of Daniel in the Old Testament tells the story of a young Jewish man who serves as an adviser in the court of Babylonian and Persian kings. Daniel's faith is tested through various trials, including being thrown into a den of lions for his refusal to stop praying. The book also includes visions and prophecies about future events.
