The bent cross or crucifix is just an artistic depiction of the cross. One possible interpretation is that the wood is bending under the weight of the world's sins. All those "satanic" interpretations are people trying to read evil interpretations on anything Catholic. They are all made up out of thin air.

For Christians, the cross symbolizes the victory of Jesus over death. Even though he was crucified by the Romans, Christians believe he did not die, but instead rose to Heaven and is still a living presence even today. Christians regard the cross as a symbol of their faith that those who believe in Jesus and trust in him will gain eternal life.

Why would Christian denominations prefer to use the cross to the crucifix?

Many Christians find it offensive because Jesus has risen from the dead and lives. This is the symbolism of the empty cross. Also some churches teach that Jesus is re-crucified or sacrificed in the Lord's Supper, despite the fact that the Bible says He died 'once for all'. They may see in the crucifix a suggestion of this doctrine that they regard as false.
