How to take care of a Teddy Bear Hamster

Enviroment: You'll need a cage to put your teddy bear hamster in, and bedding. You should change his bedding every week.

Food & Water: Every 2-6 days refill its food. It depends on how much your hamster eats and weighs. Every 2 or 3 days you should probally refill its water to keep it fresh.

Excercise: Usually cages comes with wheels in the cages. If not, I recommend you buy one. You can also buy balls that the hamster can run in. If your hamster is in the ball don't put the hamster on the table or top of stairs/step unless you have a close eye on it.

Other animals in the house: If theres other animals living in your house, such as dogs and cats, you should have them and the hamster(s) keep their distance. You can put them on a higher level, like a table or a desk, so other animals don't have reach of them.

Cleaning the cage: You can start by taking the hamster out, (maybe puting them in the ball or a box), and empty the bedding into a garbage can. You can clean the cage in the sink, or with the hose outside. Scrub the cage to get all of the remainings the hamsters may leave. Refill the food and water if needed. Dry the hamster cage and put in fresh new bedding. Make sure its not too much, or too less.

Treats: Teddy bear hamsters like treats. Put a treat in their cage and when its all gone, you can put another one in. If you notice that the hamster eats the whole treat in one day, I recommend you not give it another one that day. Also pieces of wood are good for hamsters to chew on. Hamsters teeth can get so long, that it can cut its lip. Chewing on wood prevents that.

Cleaning and Trimming: If your hamster smells bad then the cage may need to be cleaned more often or needs to be freshened up with more bedding, never put a hamster in water as it washes important oils off of their fur and will make them sick, wipes are sold at petsmart or petco that are safe to use on your hamster and will not wipe their oils off you can also buy chinchilla bath sand that is perfect for hamster to groom themselves in. if you own a dwarf hamster then their nails may need to be trimmed with small cat clippers or small animal clippers, be safe not to cut the blood filled quick in the nail, this will be a pinkish coloring inside the nail if the nail is white. nail trimming usually needs to be done every week-three weeks depending on your hamsters activity

Playing with them: They do like attention and to be played with. If you touch or wake the hamster up on suprise they may jump or bite you. Teddy bear hamsters sometimes tend to bite, but not often. They like to play in their balls too.

Does the black teddy bear hamster make a good pet?

Teddy Bear Hamsters make wonderful pets, I had a teddy bear hamster and they are the sweetest animals in the world! But each hamster is different and they require being handled daily, clean their cage once a week, change their water and food daily. Keep in mind hamsters are very fragile, even Teddy Bear Hamsters. If this is your first hamster please research it further before getting one and if you choose to get one you must accept the responsibility and take care of it properly.
