Europe
Because there was no true defense against nuclear weapons. Once both sides had nuclear weapons, the only way to "protect" themselves from the other side was to have so many more nuclear weapons that even if their enemies used all of their nuclear weapons, there would still be nuclear weapons to shoot back with. That way, nobody would use nuclear weapons, because they could never actually "win" that way. This thought process was referred to as Mutually Assured Destruction, or MAD.
More powerful weapons
southerners thought the taz helped one region more than another
People in the South referred to the Civil War as "The rich mans' war and the poor mans' fight" because the North [the rich men] due to the industrial revolution had more money and you tactics and weapons one might use in a major war. While the South [the poor men] were still economically based through agriculture and did not have the extra money the North had because they stayed that way and did not industrialised the South had to use more common weapons and different tactics to match up with the weapons they had to use.
Europe
During the Civil War, the South believed they could acquire more weapons if needed due to their strong tradition of hunting and marksmanship, as well as their access to local gunsmiths. Additionally, some Southern states had established armories or acquired weapons from Europe through blockade running. However, the South's lack of industrial capacity and resources ultimately limited their ability to produce and supply weapons in comparison to the North.
South Africa would most likely win as it is a richer country with a lot more people and weapons.

The North (Union) had more weapons as it was more highly industrialized than the South
The war may have continued abit longer than 1865 (when it ended); but sooner or later the South would have lost...no more men, no more weapons. The North produced their own rifles and revolvers (and ammunition), and had far more men than the south did.
at first the south had an advantage but it turned tables when the south started running out of amunition and the north had all the industries back then so south had no way of getting weapons so i would say the north was more powerful when the south ran out of amunition
They thought there were more Loyalist in the south to help them
The south was not as powerful as the north. The north had more advantages than the south. The south had less transportation and not as many weapons.
With lethal military and covert force. they were scared of what they thought would happen. So they gathered more of weapons and military men to help.
WW2 would have lasted at least a year longer, millions more would have died, and japan would have been partitioned into communist north japan and free south japan.
