if you watch the extra epsiode(which you can find on bbc iplayer x)it explains it all and Gary cheated on cam with another woman and while cam was willing to give himm antoher chance Gary decided not to because he thouhgt they should go there separate ways, maybe come back together in a bit.But at the end of the episode you see his funaral, with the person pronouncing how he died in a car accident on the way back. Gary either broke up with Cam, or he died. When Mike asked about him in Tracy Beaker Returns, Tracy says: We don't talk about Gary anymore.

I think he maybe broke up with Cam, or had an affair, because if he died, she would say that she wouldn't say we don't talk about him. If someone asks me about a grandparent I will tell them, "they died" I wouldn't just forget about them and move on.
