Additional details: the damper on the duct next to furnace is marked summer winter. I read the handle should be parallel to the duct in the summer indicating it is open. this duct is not straight but slightly curves. the summer marking is pointed down to the right. is this correct. I have a picture if someone tells me how to post
Ruskin model ZBBD25 barometric bypass dampers are used to automatically bypass excess air when the duct static pressure increases due to the closing of zone dampers. The barometric bypass dampers relieve excess air in duct systems through the use of a counter-balanced controlled arm weight. Various relief air control settings are created by simple adjustment of the weight on the arm. The weight can be moved either direction along the entire length of the arm to allow the damper to open at the desired pressure.
I highly doubt it. But hey, with duct tape, anything is possible.
A test to determine if there are leaks in your duct system. Pressure is added with a fan to the duct and measured to see if leaks are present, fog can be used to visually identify leaks.
existing duct = velometer (Google velometer). Calculate velocity if volume is known and the size of duct volume (cubic feet) multiplied, square feet feet of duct, IE. 1000 cubic foot of air * 12" x12" square duct = 1000 cubic feet * 1sq. foot = 1000 feet per minute
filament tape duct tape
There should be a lever somewhere on the duct near the furnace. If it is open, the lever will be parallel to the duct. If the damper is closed, it will be perpendicular to the duct.
Duct tape is a great to to seal off a HVAC duct. The tape is strong and works effectively for your needs. Duct tape can offer a tight seal for your duct.
A fire damper isolates and area by using a fusable link that will melt at a specific temperature that then aallows a dampoer to close to either isolate a room, area or HVAC duct. The damper is located when duct passes through a fire rated wall or for a return air opening.
A damper is usually a piece of metal that is installed in a duct to allow the airflow to be restricted. This lets the user open or close the restriction to adjust the amount of air getting through. There is often a metal tab handle outside the duct to rotate the damper inside the duct. The handle is parallel to the restriction plate, so the least resistance is when the handle is parallel to the duct itself. To restrict the airflow, turn the handle so that it is up to 90 degrees off from the direction of the duct.
In the event of fire, the fusible link melts and the shutter gets closed. This helps in blocking the fire from spreading through the duct ----- If you are asking about a damper on a stove or chimney, that is not called a fire damper, but just a damper. There is a link to a question on that below.
Yes, flexible duct works fine for dryer venting. Sometimes, it may be the only option.
Duct tape works every time
You would use a 24volt damper installed in the ductwork using a thermostat wired in series between one leg of the transformer and the damper motor. Buy a normally closed, spring return damper. Realize however that you will be supplying air to a garage where you may not (by code and for safety reasons), install a return air grill. In doing this you are creating an unbalanced condition in the home. The return air grill is now setting up a suction (negative pressure) condition as it is sucking more than it is supplying. You will create drafts at doors, windows and electrical/ plumbing penetrations, etc. This may cause condensation, freezing pipes, etc. You may want to add a return air to outside air duct with a manual damper to eliminate problems. You will adjust the damper to supply about 5% more outside air than you are sending to the garage, lc
I work really long hours but need to get my ducts clean. How can I find someone who does residential duct cleaning in the evenings?
You should try Vamoose, it works!!!!!!!
Dirty filter, dirty coil, closed damper, or duct has come loose from main trunk line. Rats will sometimes nest in air ducts and may chew holes through the ducts, especially the insulated plastic ducts. That's the worst case.
Use Goof -Off on a rag, it works very well for this.
