What provides the force that pushes up mountains?

The thing that provides the force for pushing up mountains is the convection currents in the asthenosphere. The currents move the tectonic plates on which the continents are sitting upon. When the currents force the plates together a convergent plate boundary is formed and due to the pressure of the plates colliding mass amounts of rock are pushed up forming mountains, but i must remind you that since this is the earth this all happens very slowly at the rate of at most 3 cetemeters a year.
